Choosing labret studs and flat back earrings

Labrets are flat back studs: the disc sits flush against the skin, so nothing pokes the back of your ear while you sleep and there is no long bar to catch on hair or masks. That comfort is why labrets have become the go-to jewellery for tragus, helix, conch, forward helix and lobe piercings as well as the lip piercings they are named after.

Most of our labrets are 316L surgical steel, with gold PVD-coated steel, solid 14 karat gold, titanium and flexible bioflex also in the range. The majority are internally threaded — the thread is on the removable top rather than the post, so only smooth metal passes through the piercing. Prices start at $2.99, and most studs are stocked in several gauges and lengths, so check the size table on each product page.

Getting the size right

Lip and philtrum piercings are usually 16g or 14g, while tragus, helix and conch piercings are commonly 16g or 18g. Length matters as much as gauge: a snug 6–8 mm post suits a healed ear cartilage piercing, while fresh piercings are fitted longer to allow for swelling.
